According to Church sources, the Australian Coptic Movement (ACM) has been informed that Fr. Dawood Botros, priest of the Prince Tadros El-Shatby in Shatb, Assiut, was found dead in his home.He has been stabbed 22 times all over his torso according to Fr. Touma of Assiut. It has been reported that some documents and money have been stolen, however exact value has not yet been determined.
 
Sources describe the current situation in Assiut as very volatile as about 4000 Coptic Protestors have taken to the streets over the last few hours in protest to the killing. The protestors congregated infront of the deceased home and marched behind the ambulance carrying the body.
 
According to the Egyptian newspaper ‘ The Seventh Day’ – police claim the the motive for the killing was robbery.
 
ACM strongly condemns the brutal killing and calls for the army who is in charge, to catch the perpetrators immediately.
