ACM Protests light up Australian skies in support of Coptic Christians
30 December 2018 – The Australian Coptic Movement association organised protests in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin. Our message was seen by millions in Sydney after Skywriters wrote our hashtag #Justice4Copts all over Sydney.
The Australian Coptic Movement Association (ACM) organised protests on 30 December 2018 in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin. The protests proceeded despite the predictable sabotage attempts which occurred in the final days leading up to the protest. The sabotage attempts clearly demonstrate the ongoing need for Independent NGO’s to represent the community in Australia. The ACM is independent of any religious body or diocese AND independent of the Egyptian Government (or any other foreign Government).
One of our zealous supporters arranged for Skywriters to take our message all over the skies of Sydney. Our hashtag #Justice4Copts and crosses were written across the skies of Sydney from 11.30am to 12.30pm in three different locations. The message was seen by millions of Australians.
Why did we protest? This is explained in our pre-event media release here http://https://copticmovement.com/2018/12/another-bloody-christmas-for-egypts-coptic-christians-as-copts-protest/
2018 has been another difficult year for many in our community in Egypt and around the world. We can only hope and pray that 2019 will be a better one for all.
In 2019 we will continue to stand in solidarity with our persecuted friends overseas. We refer to our No 1 demand issued in our media release just prior to yesterday’s protest where we demanded
” 1) The Egyptian Government should establish a special inquiry to examine and investigate all sectarian attacks that have occurred, past and present and ensure that perpetrators are apprehended and held accountable for their crimes. This should also include members of the Police and Military who have committed crimes against Coptic civilians”.
In the past few hours, the Egyptian President issued a decree regarding forming a ‘committee’ to address the sectarian attacks in Egypt. We are following this development closely to see the type of powers that this committee will have. As discussed at our rally, if Egypt cannot deliver justice then we will have no choice but to seek justice in International courts.
We wish you and all your families a Happy New Year and thank you for your support over 2018. #HappyNewYear #NYE2019 #Justice4Copts
